Cover-ups and wraps "Sarongs" and "Cangas"

Canga is the Portuguese word for a sarong. The most frequently asked question is "How do you tie a canga?"

Tying a canga is not as difficult as it may seem. It just takes a little patience, practice, experimentation and a relaxed attitude. One of the easiest methods is to tie your canga as a skirt around your waist. However, cangas can be utilized to make quick dresses, shawls, swimsuit cover-ups, scarves, turbans and much more. To help you get a better understanding of how to wear your canga or sarong, we've included some ideas on how to tie your canga in this section. Practice, experiment and before you know it you'll be a canga tying expert!

WARNING: Cangas are extremely addictive and once you start wearing them you'll never want to take them off!

Did you know that cangas are quickly becoming one of the most essential fashion accessories? Why is this you ask? Simply, cangas are amazing. They pack easily and travel well, look great and feel fantastic and have a multitude of uses. In a nutshell, congas provide convenience, style and fashion all wrapped in a little piece of cloth.

Cangas are easy to wear and very sexy, no doubt about it. So learn to tie your canga in the best way possible. You want to look great and you don't want it falling off of while your walking down the street. That could be embarrassing. A canga tie is a good idea too. Canga ties give you a little extra hold and security.

We've included a few ways of how to tie a canga:

The Short Skirt

  1. Fold your canga in half
  2. Wrap around your waist
  3. Tie at your hip or use a canga tie

The Skirt

  1. Step in front of your canga.
  2. Pull the ends evenly forward and let the fabric sit on your waist. If you have a fringed canga, let the un-fringed end be the one you pull around your waist.
  3. Tie ends around your waist and secure a knot on your hip.

The Wrap Skirt

  1. Wrap canga evenly around your waist, pulling the ends forward. If you have a fringed canga, let the unfringed end be the one you pull around your waist.

  2. Tuck one end into your bathing suit bottom at the opposite hip. Secure with a pin if the elastic of your suit or string of your bikini is not enough to hold fabric.

  3. Bring free end to the other hip, smoothing the fabric flat across your belly. Hold the fabric with one hand and begin to fold a few inches past your belly button.

  4. Make three pleats starting at four inches in length and decreasing to two inches.

  5. Fold pleated end into waistband.

Halter Dress

  1. Pull the ends of the canga forward so that the material lies flat across your upper back. Keep ends even in length.
  2. Gather ends and tie once across your bust. Pull gently to secure.
  3. Bring ends up and over your shoulders.
  4. Tie behind your neck. Knot once if desired.

Dress and Shorts

  1. STAND straight, SPREAD out your thighs and legs in such a way that you have space in between.
  2. HOLD the canga in front of you and tie around the back of your neck.
  3. Tuck the sides of the canga into your bathing suit at your hips.
  4. Bring the lower portion of the canga up between your legs and wrap around your waist.
  5. Tie the two corners behind your back.
  6. Adjust accordingly

Then you can close up your legs. You will discover the canga is wrapped nicely and comfortable on you, revealing your back and showing a bit of your thigh while keeping your bating suit covered until your ready to show it off.
